Have You Been Paid in Cash?

If I’ve Been Paid Cash In Hand, Will This Affect My Police Application?

If you’re a police applicant, the police force or service that you’re applying for will naturally do some background checks. They’ll want to know your employment history. Now that might spark a concern for you if you’ve had a few jobs where you’ve been paid cash in hand.

Today, I’m Russell from Prime Motion Training. So let’s discuss that, if you have been paid cash in hand, for some jobs that you’ve done. You don’t necessarily need to hit the panic button because it’s not illegal to be paid in cash. Cash is a perfectly legal tender. Where the problem might arise of course, is if you haven’t declared that income and therefore you’re dodging your tax responsibilities. Now to put your mind at ease, that’s not really something that the police force or service would go out of their way to investigate. They may be more interested in your employment history so that they can look at your different life experiences. Have you been dealing with customers? Have you been interacting with the public? Or have you been sitting at the back in a little box there somewhere crunching numbers? So don’t panic too much if you’ve done some jobs where being paid cash in hand.

They’re not likely to pursue you to make sure that you’ve paid your taxes for those couple of jobs that you might have done. Now, remember of course, there is a tax free threshold as well. And you can investigate that in your own time. But if you’re earning cash up to a certain limit, you don’t need to declare it. You won’t be paying tax on it anyway. So make sure you’re well educated around this issue. If you’re turning up for your police entrance exam in your Porsche. And you’ve been studying for the last five years and doing some odd jobs around the place, that might raise some eyebrows. But aside from that, you’re probably pretty safe. Just don’t abuse that situation. And of course, make sure you declare everything and pay your tax. All right. Well, I hope that put you at ease a little bit. I look forward to chatting to you again in another video soon.
