Prime Motion Training was founded by Russell Kempster as a personal training business to help people achieve their fitness goals. The business was being run as a part-time venture as Russell was working full time as a police officer with the Victoria Police.
Russell started off training people from his home but it didn’t take long before a training studio was required. So Russell then opened a Personal Training Studio in Lilydale which helped him to service the ever-growing number of clients he was training.
Then when Russell started working at the Victoria Police Academy in 1997 as a physical skills instructor and while running the fitness test for applicants, Russell noticed that there were people failing the tests, but not because they weren’t fit (although some weren’t), but because they weren’t Police Fitness Test Fit. It was also apparent that lots of people lacked an understanding of the proper techniques and strategies to maximise their scores.
So Russell started working with police, and other emergency service, applicants in his spare time teaching them the correct techniques and strategies and getting them to follow a specific program that he developed especially for the tests.
This started producing great results especially with people who had initially failed the police fitness test and were returning to pass the second time around.
As the word started to spread, among police and other emergency service applicants, that a genuine expert in this field was offering specialised training, Russell’s services quickly became sought after by those wanting to give themselves the best available preparation.
This is when Russell stopped training people for general fitness and started working only with people trying to get into the police force or other emergency related services.
Back in the late ’90s, the fitness test was an obstacle course and Russell decided that in order to give his clients the best training then they needed to be able to practice on the obstacle course as the best type of training is the most specific for the outcome required.
The problem was that civilians (non-police members) were not allowed to use the only course at the Victoria Police Academy and this was the only one in Australia.
So Russell had a brilliant idea, “Let’s build our own!”
He roped in his best mate Mark plus a few other people to help him build a replica obstacle course. This goes a long way toward understanding the philosophy of Russell and Prime Motion Training to provide the absolute best training available.
Then back in the middle of 2010 when the Fitness Test was changed and with the Victoria Police on a huge recruiting drive, he joined forces with his longtime best mate Mark Standeven.
And that’s where Prime Motion Training Training still is today, specialising in helping applicants and recruits prepare and pass the Victoria Police Fitness Test by offering the most specific training programs available.
