Are You Prepared For The South Australia Police Physical and Agility Testing?
Fit For Duty
If you’re applying to join South Australia Police you’ll need to be “fit for duty”, that is, you’ll need sufficient cardiovascular endurance, agility, strength and coordination to successfully complete the “fit for duty” fitness test.
The exercises that make up the fitness test are as follows:
- run 80 metres
- run 25 metres carrying two 15kg weights
- cross a slippery balance beam
- do 20 step-ups
- climb over a one-metre-tall fence
- drop to the ground and stand up five times
- collect a training firearm and pull the trigger 13 times with each hand
Applicants must complete the test within 2 minutes and 30 seconds and do so whilst wearing a vest weighing 10 kgs.
Just to keep it interesting, applicants will also be required to recall 5 pieces of information given to them prior to commencing the test. This information is typically a description of an offender, such as their height, build or clothing.
Preparation For The SAPOL “fit For duty” fitness test
Setting up a mock “fit for duty” course is pretty straight forward, and, it’s an important part of your preparation.
However, to improve your fitness and to be ready for the test you’ll need to identify the core fitness components of the test, assess the best technique to use for maximum efficiency, and structure a training program to address each of these elements. Don’t worry though, we’ve done it for you 🙂
Cardiovascular endurance, coordination, agility and strength are all aspects covered in our training programs. You’ll be able to download printable copies of each program, watch the tutorial videos and make use of our “create your training schedule” instructional video to make sure you’re doing the right exercises in the right way and in the right amount.
It’s important to keep in mind that South Australia Police expects Academy Cadets to have maintained their fitness after passing the “fit for duty” test, so, we need to get to the required fitness level, keep our foot on the gas, and keep building so we put you in good stead for your academy training.
